Reason For Girona vs Alaves Betting Tips
This game sees one of La Liga’s surprise packages meet one of it’s biggest disappointments. Alaves have failed to build on a very creditable first season back in the top flight last term, while Girona have really impressed in their debut campaign in La Liga. They look more than capable of backing that up here with another win.
Even at this stage in the season, it’s hard to see how Alaves are going to avoid the drop. They’ve already sacked two coaches this season and sit rock bottom, having lost 11 of their 13 league fixtures and they are already 6 points off safety. Unlike one or two of the other struggling sides they don’t really have any attacking players that you could see firing them to survival, although there were some encouraging signs in the Copa del Rey last week for new boss Abelardo Fernández who was appointed on Friday.
Their goalscoring record is the worst in the division with just 0.54 goals per game on average this term. Defensively they don’t convince either though with just a 15% clean sheet ratio and the way Girona have been playing, you wouldn’t bank on them improving on that here, particularly with Alaves without several regular players due to suspension and injury.
Girona are strong favourites with the bookies and come into this one in great form, unbeaten in 5 league games, winning 3 of them. They currently sit in the top half, having made one of the best openings to a campaign by a newly promoted side in many years.
They have two players in pretty good nick in front of goal. Christian Stuani is their top scorer but Portu has really found some form in recent weeks. He bagged a brace at Betis last time out and has 5 goals in his last 7 league appearances. He now seems to truly believe he belongs at this level and backing Portu to score anytime looks a good bet here.
With Alaves looking so poor and Girona in such good form and really playing with plenty of energy and genuine belief, backing a Home Win also looks like the most sensible approach in the Full Time Result market.
In terms of the scoreline, going for a 2-1 Girona win looks a logical choice. All of their last three league wins have been by that margin and both teams have scored in all of their last seven fixtures in the Spanish top flight. That will give Alaves some hope but the visitors are so short on firepower, it’s hard to see them scoring more than once in this one.
Alaves have just won 1 of the last 6 gatherings, a bad-tempered 1-0 home win in 2015 which saw 3 players sent off. They are without a win in 4 outings to Girona, although this will be the main best flight meeting between the clubs.

Girona Team News
Pere Pons is back from damage and should start in midfield while Bernardo is back from a ban to return in central resistance.
Alaves Team News
Alaves have huge choice issues here. Christian Santos, Rodrigo Ely and Manu Garcia are all suspended while Carlos Vigaray has gotten damage, meaning Alexis is probably going to fill in at ideal back. Guillermo Maripan, Daniel Torres and Alvaro Medran are also liable to get starts, although with another coach it’s somewhat harder to foresee how they will shape up.
